Mossman is actually closer to the Daintree and Cape...
Mossman is actually closer to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation than Port Douglas, but Port is a very short drive away to be able get to reef cruises and activities there. Mossman is the old town, still with elements of 'country', check out the Exchange Hotel (there is a Woolworths on the edge of town - I wish they'd hide it behind large trees) and a regular market every Saturday (10.00 am - 1.00 pm) in the historic church grounds. It is not overwhelmed by tourism, but the surrounding areas have B&B and accommodation options. Mossman Gorge is an amazing upland rainforest experience. You get one of the mini-busses from the Visitor Info Centre (every 15 mins until 5.30 pm) This takes you to the walking trail. The first part is boardwalk, then an easy bush trail in a circuit. The forest is spectacular, very relaxing to see & hear the water of the Mossman River. Sit on the seating or a rock near the trail and wonder at the profusion of life that fills every space. TIP: Take a towel & wear swimmers, as there is a rock pool about 2/3 of or the way along the bush trail with clear fresh water, safe to wade & cool off in.BruceAustralia - 10Scored 10

I was originally more interested in Mossman Gorge and...
I was originally more interested in Mossman Gorge and proximity to Port Douglas than actual township of Mossman. Regardless, I did enjoy a lovely morning tea of coconut cream pie at Temptations Cafe. I also visited the local Art show, where I purchased beautiful hand made felt shoulder bags as presents for family members. Judy at the Library was extremely helpful in assisting me. The shopping centre is well serviced and provided ingredients for dinner back at the B&B. The rain trees, on entering from the North, are remarkable with epiphyte cardiganed arms welcoming one.NornskiAustralia - 6.0Scored 6.0

Mandy and Chris are also wonderful, knowledgeable, and helpful. Mandy gave us a great recommendation when our original GBR snorkel tour fell through. So close to Mossman Gorge and a very easy drive to Port Douglas.
